Austin Article online

http://www.thefounder.co.uk/2011/03/08/sounds-of-the-city-austin/

So happy with this. And I'll admit- it feels sooo good to hold the newspaper version in my hand.

A first of many?

Wowzer I am going absolutely crazy, I'm bouncing off the walls. I'm just so excited. Okay I like lists and my head is going all types of crazy so to clear things up for me here's a list.

1. I haven't blogged about my show in months. I will do it. I will. But right now I'm blogging about something else, which is totally new to me and this blog but it's about music and travel. boom.

2. I wrote an article for the Founder about the Austin Music scene and I'm so pumped about it. It's truly what I want to be doing, writing about music and places. But also not what I want to be doing. As soon as I label something or make something to concrete I lose interest. Like as soon as I've decided what direction I want to go into I quickly turn the other way. Yes I want to write. But not just all the time. And I definitely don't want to be linked to the term 'journalism'. Yes I want to travel, but I also want a fixed place to call home. I definitely, definitely want something to do with music. Now that's definitely something fixed.

3. I originally started this post because I wanted to list all the music that I've just found and that's buzzing around in my head and I need a place to put it!! So thats what I came here to do and now I've gone off track and am talking about future career plans. That's because it all interlinks and meshes together. I just wrote another article for the Founder about the Portland Music scene and there's so much great stuff coming out of there. That's what I wanted to write down here in this blog entry. I'm also buzzing because I really definitely want to spend some time out there next year. It's all part of my Great American Plan you see. As I'm typing this I'm also talking to my Music Editor and it's getting me horribly confused.

4. So yes. Portland article. Bloody wicked, so happy with it, so happy I got to write it. Watched a mini series about the electronic scene in Portland produced by Wieden & Kennedy and they introduced me to so much new music. At the same time I was talking to a friend who's a LTMN DJ and he was recommending some tracks. So, finally, what I came here to do, here they are:

1. Atole- from Portland so good
2. Nurses - ditto
3 White Rainbow- still trying to track some tracks down but I have a feeling he'll be sick
4. Night Plane- do remixes of Warpaint and Best Coast, which are literally eargasm
5. Soul Clap- so good especially this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML-N4O2GIfU
6. Nicco Jarr
7. Explode into Colours- a Portland trio to watch

Okay that is all. Before I have a nervous breakdown I'm off. I'm attempting too much at the same time. But its oh so fun! Another Portland show coming up this week on Transport Yourself. Simply did not do it justice the other time round. Now I'm more informed, I'll inform you, so listen in.

PORTLAND and SEATTLE Recap 13/01

Transport Yourself is back! First show of the new year! First show of the new term! First two hour show! First time on the new system! Its a day of firsts!

Oh boy. The new system! Well, what a kerfuffle that was! Really, it's impossible to explain it on air or on this but there has been a mighty big change. It's very different to the 'old system' and twill definitely take some time getting used to it. I do think the new myriad is good, and it is more professional and it'll sound better on air but sometimes, change is what you really, really don't want.

Made the show a bit of a mess, I will admit that, so apologies! Meant I played more songs from one band rather than lots of songs from more bands - but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

Anyway, time to recap! Portland and Seattle? What great, vibrant, music-filled cities!

Firstly let's set the scene. If there's a blueprint for a successful 21st- century city, Portland must surely be it. This zany but precocious mini-metropolis stands at the cutting edge of all that's cool, hop and forward- thinking about modern America. I didn't mention this on the show, but I really truly would love to live in Portland for a couple of months. I have this great American plan but it's all up in the air so won't be revealing anything just yet!

As Portland has been a hotbed of indie music since the mid 1990's this is what I played: (And no, not in order.)

Death Cab for Cutie- I Will Possess Your Heart
Death Cab for Cutie- Soul Meets Body
The Shins- New Slang
The Shins- Girl Inform Me
Fleet Foxes- Your Protector
YACHT- Psychic City
YACHT - Summer Song
Pavement-
She & Him
The Decemberists- Hazards of Love
The Decemberists- The Wanting Comes in Waves
Modest Mouse- Broke
Starfucker- Myke Ptyson
Starfucker- German Love
Elliot Smith- Coast to Coast
Elliot Smith- Speed Trials

Vondelpark- Jetlag Blue Version (actually from Surrey, UK but I had to make an exception: my first show since I found out about him and he just had to feature on it)

The doughnuts I was talking about? Voodoo Doughnuts, check 'em out here: they really aren't your average doughnut wwww.voodoodoughnut.com

I also mentioned the film Wendy and Lucy which has a pretty basic plot, but Michelle Williams is fantastic in it and its very ascetically pleasing. Also mentioned Zooey Deschanel, of She & Him who plays in 500 Days of Summer and I am absolutely not ashamed to admit that I love this film. The graphics are truly great.

Welcome to Portland. While you’re here, why not eat an erotic doughnut, stalk indie stars, hike a volcano, fuck the system, kiss a vegan, grab a coffee, and write a zine about it all.

To end with, enjoy the Wendy and Lucy trailer

BACK ON AIR / ONLINE

Hello peeps! Happy New Year!

Alright, this post is super late- I am so busy at the moment! Lots of Uni work, lots of Insanity stuff, lots of Production meetings and I just wrote a travel article about San Francisco for the Orbital! Very happy to be doing that as I've wanted to for a while, and it's good to get some traveling stuff down on paper. They even asked me if I wanted to be elected to be Travel Correspondent! Now that would be sweet!

So just when I'm struggling with time management I've got something else that'll take up even more time! In fact a whole hour a week! Yes peeps, I've got a 2 HOUR SHOW this term!!! Wooop!

SAME SHOW / SAME HOST / NEW 2 HOUR SHOW

NEW TIME 4-6PM / EVERY THURSDAY

Pretty bloody happy about this. Think it'll really change the dynamic of my show, means I won't be so pushed for time and I can play even more fantastic music!

Get Ready to be Transported even more vigorously. Ha.

Here's something that absolutely made my new year: the findings of Vondelpark. I did shed a tear when I first heard it, I kid you not.
